Accessibility Policy
At Spanish Sin Pena, we are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
Online Accessibility
The core of our program is hosted online via Zoom, making it accessible to anyone with a reliable internet connection, no matter where they are.
- Flexible Learning Environment – Participants can join classes from the comfort of their home, reducing the need for travel.
- Customizable Experience – Students can adjust their screen size, brightness, and contrast or use assistive technology like screen readers.
- Reduced Sensory Overload – Those with sensory sensitivities can control their learning environment, minimizing distractions like loud noises or crowded spaces.
- Flexible Seating – You can attend class in a way that is comfortable for you, whether sitting, lying down, or using specialized seating.
- Access to Recorded Lessons – If available, recordings allow you to revisit lessons at your own pace.
- Captioning & Transcription Tools – While bilingual captioning is a challenge, students can use their own speech-to-text software or request summaries via zoom to aid comprehension.
- Less Exposure to Illness – For those with compromised immune systems, online classes eliminate the risk of exposure to germs in a shared physical space.
In-Person Gatherings
We occasionally host optional in-person meet-ups. When selecting venues, we prioritize locations that are ADA-compliant to ensure accessibility for all participants.
For outdoor activities, such as walks or hikes, we always provide an alternative option—such as games, snacks, and a welcoming space for those who prefer to stay at the tables. A member of our team will always be present to ensure that everyone feels included.
Closed Captioning
At this time, we do not offer closed captioning for our classes. Our sessions are bilingual, Spanglish and we use a lot of Spanish slang, because of this it’s challenging to find a program that can automatically generate accurate captions.
We understand the importance of accessibility and are always looking for solutions. If you know of any programs that might help or have alternative suggestions, please email us at [email protected].
Accessibility Policy for Immersion Trips
At Spanish Sin Pena, we strive to create immersive travel experiences that are inclusive and welcoming. However, due to the developing infrastructure in many parts of Latin America, accessibility can be challenging.
General Considerations
- Many of the destinations we visit have cobblestone streets, narrow or uneven sidewalks, and limited accessible public restrooms.
- Unlike the U.S., ADA-equivalent laws vary across Latin American countries, and accessibility standards may not be as widespread or consistently enforced.
- While some cities, like Mexico City and Buenos Aires, are making progress—offering accessible museums, historical sites, and public spaces—navigating certain areas can still be difficult.
Accommodations & Requests
For specific destinations, we can explore available accommodations if there is interest. We encourage travelers with accessibility concerns to reach out in advance so we can assess potential options.
Looking Ahead
We are committed to keeping accessibility in mind as we plan future trips and will continue to seek ways to make our experiences more inclusive. If you have recommendations or insights that could help us improve accessibility on our trips, we’d love to hear from you!
Your Input Matters
